The Nissan Leaf grabbed the Green Car Vision award ahead of some wonderful cars like the Coda Automative’s sedan, the F-cell, the Ford Focus BEV and the Toyota Prius at the Washington Auto Show this year. A nominee for the award can be an exclusively new model or a revised version of an existing model. The press conference held after the award showed that there have been 38,000 people who have given their pre-orders.
According to one of the spokesperson of Nissan, the company has a vision of mass market for car and would soon announce its pricing information. The car is expected to be on sale in the later part of the year and is a deliberate attempt of the company to offer a battery electric vehicle.
The car intends to meet the demands in terms of the features, driving experience and the styling that is required in the demanding and sophisticated market of the present era. The cost of the vehicle does not exceed the cost of any similar internal combustion model. A car is sought for the Green Car Vision Award only when it is in the early part of commercialization with one prototype in operation without being on sale.
Green Car Journal has focused on the energy and environmental aspects of the car since its inception in 1992. The Nissan Leaf is also a strong signal that the vision of the company may soon hit the popularity chart in a big way. The award has come as a very significant step for the company.
